Crocodile Smuggling Bust in Morena

In a significant operation, authorities in Morena, Madhya Pradesh, apprehended three individuals suspected of smuggling crocodiles. This information was confirmed by a police official on Sunday.


The official reported that a joint effort by the police and the forest department led to the recovery of 30 crocodiles and three baby turtles from the suspects in the town of Joura.


Vinod Upadhyay, a sub-ranger from the Joura forest department, revealed that they received a tip-off indicating that a white car was transporting crocodiles and turtle hatchlings concealed in a betel nut bag, sourced from the Chambal River for smuggling purposes.


Following this intelligence, a coordinated operation with police assistance resulted in the discovery of the crocodiles and turtles inside the vehicle. Nitin S. Baghel, the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Joura, stated that the suspects have been arrested and a case has been filed against them under the Wildlife Protection Act.


He further mentioned that interrogations of the suspects are ongoing, and subsequent actions will be determined. Officials from the forest department indicated that the accused had extracted the crocodiles and turtle hatchlings from the Bateeshwara ghat along the Chambal River.
