Riyan Parag Steps Up as Stand-in Captain

Guwahati (Assam) [India] - March 26: Riyan Parag, the acting captain of Rajasthan Royals, expressed his confidence in leading the team without their regular skipper, Sanju Samson. He noted that the transition has been seamless, thanks to the robust support from senior players and coaching staff. Parag spoke to the media ahead of their important match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Barsapara Cricket Stadium.

“Not at all. I think everyone here is a professional. Everyone knows what to do when there is a new leader. Sanju [Samson] Bhai has been really helpful, and Rahul Dravid has also been a great support. So I have not really faced any trouble to assemble the team or get someone in the same line of communication,” Parag stated during the pre-match press briefing.

Both Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders are looking to recover from recent defeats. Rajasthan faced a significant loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in a high-scoring match where SRH set a record with 286/6, while Rajasthan managed 242/6, resulting in a 44-run defeat.

Despite the setback, Parag pointed out the positives, especially the impressive performance of the middle order.

“I feel the middle order is always the backbone of any batting order. For them to step up like they did, for them to bat like they did, regardless of the end result, I think that’s a big plus because we are not going to give 280 every game of the season. There are going to be 180, 140, 150 games and that’s where we’ll need them the most,” he elaborated.

Parag is optimistic that the confidence gained from their last performance will benefit Rajasthan in future matches.

“The way they played last game should be a big confidence booster. Hopefully, they can continue that form in the upcoming matches,” he added.

Rajasthan Royals are now focused on bouncing back against KKR, aiming to secure their first victory of the season and build some momentum.
