Mumbai Indians Captain Penalized for Over Rate Violation

Hardik Pandya, the captain of the Mumbai Indians, has received a fine of Rs 12 lakh due to his team's slow over rate during their recent Indian Premier League match against the Gujarat Titans.


The five-time champions faced a defeat against GT by 36 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday.


According to a statement released by the IPL on Sunday, "Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during Match No. 9 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad."


It was noted that this was the first offence for his team this season under Article 2.2 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations, leading to the fine of INR 12 lakhs for Pandya.


In the match, Gujarat Titans scored 196 runs on a black-soil pitch in Ahmedabad, while Mumbai Indians struggled in their response, finishing at 160 for six, marking Gujarat's first victory of the season.


This loss marks the second consecutive defeat for MI, leaving them without any points in the tournament so far.
