Nicholas Pooran Shines in IPL 2025: A Stellar Performance Against SRH
Nicholas Pooran's Explosive Batting Leads LSG to Victory
New Delhi, March 28: After the recent IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa praised Nicholas Pooran's outstanding batting display.
Pooran has been in remarkable form, hitting 13 sixes in just two matches for LSG in the ongoing IPL 2025 season.
The 29-year-old showcased his power-hitting skills with a blistering 70 runs off only 26 balls, helping LSG chase down a target of 191 runs and secure a five-wicket victory with several overs to spare.
Uthappa highlighted Pooran's batting strategy, stating, “He played according to the merit of the ball. His mindset is clear: if the ball is in his hitting zone, he goes for it without hesitation. This was evident today. Against spinners, particularly left-arm and leg spinners, he positions himself to take advantage of any loose deliveries. Hitting Adam Zampa for 19 runs in his first over sends a strong message: ‘I’m unstoppable.’ Pooran's performance was a display of sheer dominance, scoring 17 boundaries off just 26 balls,” he remarked during a discussion on JioHotstar.
In the match, LSG opted to bowl first, putting SRH to bat. Shardul Thakur initially restricted LSG to 15/2, but a solid 61-run partnership between Travis Head (47 runs off 28 balls, including five fours and a six) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (32 runs off 28 balls, with two fours) helped stabilize SRH's innings. Contributions from Heinrich Klaasen (26 runs off 17 balls, with two fours and a six), Aniket Varma (36 runs off 13 balls, hitting five sixes), and captain Pat Cummins (18 runs off four balls, with three sixes) propelled SRH to a total of 190/9 in their 20 overs.
Shardul was the standout bowler for LSG, claiming 4 wickets for 34 runs, while Avesh Khan, Prince Yadav, Digvesh Rathi, and Ravi Bishnoi each took one wicket.
During the chase, LSG lost Aiden Markram early, but a remarkable 116-run partnership between Nicholas Pooran (70 runs off 26 balls, with six fours and six sixes) and Mitchell Marsh (52 runs off 31 balls, with seven fours and two sixes), along with a quick cameo from Abdul Samad (22* runs off eight balls, with two fours and two sixes), led LSG to a five-wicket win with 23 balls remaining. Pat Cummins was the leading bowler for SRH, taking 2 wickets for 29 runs.
Shardul Thakur was awarded the 'Player of the Match' for his impressive bowling performance.
