Nicholas Pooran Shines as Lucknow Super Giants Secure Victory Over Sunrisers Hyderabad
Nicholas Pooran Achieves Milestone for Lucknow Super Giants
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India] - March 28: Nicholas Pooran has made history by becoming only the second player to surpass the 1000-run milestone for the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League (IPL). His explosive batting performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad showcased his talent in the current season of the lucrative league.
Playing at the home ground of Sunrisers, Pooran thrilled fans with a remarkable innings of 70 runs off just 26 balls, effectively dismantling the hosts' 190-run defense.
After being dismissed by SRH captain Pat Cummins, Pooran left the field as the franchise's second-highest run-scorer.
He joins former player KL Rahul as the only other to reach the 1000-run mark for the team, achieving this in only 31 matches with an impressive average of 45.54 and a strike rate of 184.53. Pooran's total stands at 1002 runs, trailing only Rahul's 1410 runs in 38 matches.
The 29-year-old, renowned for his powerful hitting, has reached fifty runs in under 20 balls on four occasions, the most by any player in the IPL. Australia's Travis Head and Jake Fraser-McGurk follow closely with three such instances each. Pooran's fastest fifty came in just 18 balls, second only to his own record of 15 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2023.
In the chase for 191 runs, Mohammed Shami struck first by dismissing Aiden Markram for just 1 run. Pooran then formed a crucial 116-run partnership with Mitchell Marsh, alleviating pressure on the visitors.
This partnership is now the highest for LSG for the second wicket or lower, surpassing the previous record of 111 runs set by KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda against Rajasthan Royals in Lucknow last year.
By the time Cummins managed to dismiss Pooran with a delivery clocked at 143 kph, LSG had gained a significant advantage in the match.
Abdul Samad contributed a rapid unbeaten 22 runs off eight balls, paving the way for David Miller to seal the victory with a boundary. LSG celebrated a five-wicket win with over three overs remaining.
