Bumrah's Injury Update Ahead of IPL 2025

New Delhi [India] March 19: Jasprit Bumrah will not be available for the early matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, as confirmed by Mumbai Indians' head coach Mahela Jayawardene. He described the situation as a challenge and expressed hope that Bumrah would rejoin the team soon, according to reports from a sports media outlet.

Bumrah experienced back spasms during the second day of the final Test in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Following scans, he returned to the dressing room, raising hopes for his participation on Day 3. Since the conclusion of the BGT, he has been undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and has not participated in any matches.

During a press conference, Jayawardene provided an update on Bumrah's condition, stating that he is currently at the NCA and that they are awaiting feedback from the BCCI medical team regarding his injury.

“Jasprit is currently with the NCA and has just begun his recovery process. We need to wait for the BCCI medical team's assessment. So far, everything appears to be progressing well, but it is monitored on a daily basis. He is in good spirits. His absence is certainly a challenge, as he is one of the world's top bowlers and has been an invaluable asset to us for many years,” Jayawardene remarked.

Jayawardene also mentioned that the franchise will need to identify someone who can fill in for Bumrah during his absence. He noted that the initial phase of the IPL provides an opportunity to experiment with different strategies.

“We will have to wait and look for opportunities for others to step up. This is how I view the situation. It allows us to try out various strategies and see what works. The early part of the season is ideal for this,” he added.

The Mumbai Indians are scheduled to face the Chennai Super Kings in their opening match on Sunday, March 23, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
