In the league stage too, India registered a great victory against Australia by 6 wickets. However, the 10-match winning streak made little difference in the final as Australia comprehensively defeated India in the final.
Bowling first, the team from Down Under dismissed the hosts for a modest score of 240 despite half-centuries from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli. In reply, Australia scored 47 runs for 3 wickets with 6 wickets remaining in 43 overs. Travis Head starred with the bat, scoring 137 and sharing a 192-run partnership with Marnus Labuschagne who remained unbeaten on 58.
Team India to get new coach for Australia T20I:
Just three days after the final, India and Australia will resume their rivalry in T20Is when they lock horns against each other in the first match of the five-match T20I series. Most of the players who will play in the World Cup will not be part of the Indian team. Hardik Pandya is also unavailable due to injury.
As a result, India will have a new captain as well as a new-look team for the upcoming series. According to a report in The Indian Express, the home team will also have a new coach for the series. Reports say that former India batsman VVS Laxman could be the stand-in coach for the series.
Presently the Director of National Cricket Academy VVS Laxman has enough experience in coaching. He served as the coach of IPL outfit Sunrisers Hyderabad for 9 years before joining NCA as its chief. He has also worked as a stand-in coach for Team India several times.
