The meteorological department has issued a red alert for Goa, predicting heavy to extremely heavy rainfall until Sunday. Authorities have advised residents to avoid rivers and waterfalls during this period.


Recent Rainfall Data

In the last 24 hours, several areas in the coastal state experienced significant rainfall. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the highest recorded rainfall was 162 mm in Ponda, South Goa, followed by 124.2 mm in Dharbandora and 123.4 mm in Margao.


Government Response to Weather Conditions

On Friday, the weather department issued a red alert indicating the likelihood of heavy rainfall, which will remain in effect until Sunday. On Saturday, the state's Forest Minister, Vishwajit Rane, announced that district collectors in both North and South Goa have ordered a ban on swimming in rivers and waterfalls. Rane stated, 'All waterfalls are closed for swimming activities. However, people can visit the waterfalls under the supervision of the forest department.'
