Why Did Punjab Experience a Blackout Amid Rising Tensions with Pakistan?

Blackout Across Punjab and Chandigarh

On Thursday evening, a blackout was implemented in various districts, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Mohali, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, as reported by officials.

This decision follows heightened tensions between India and Pakistan.

Residents in Pathankot reported hearing a sound resembling an explosion, though there has been no official verification of this claim.

Air raid warning sirens were activated in Pathankot, where the blackout began around 8:30 PM.

Authorities urged citizens to turn off their lights and remain indoors.

Despite the situation, district officials reassured the public that there was no cause for alarm.

The escalation in tensions occurred after Indian forces conducted missile strikes on nine terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) early Wednesday, targeting the Jaish-e-Mohammad stronghold in Bahawalpur and the Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke, as a response to a terror attack in Pahalgam.
