Tensions Rise: Navy Chief's Meeting with PM Modi Following Pahalgam Terror Attack

High-Level Discussions Amidst Rising Tensions

New Delhi: In light of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a tragic terrorist incident in Pahalgam that resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi convened with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg on Saturday.

This crucial meeting occurs as the Indian government has empowered the military with full operational autonomy to address the recent attack, which is widely believed to have been orchestrated from Pakistan.

The discussions between Admiral Tripathi and PM Modi are perceived as part of the government's extensive military and strategic evaluations in response to the Pahalgam attack. Sources suggest that the agenda likely included topics such as maritime security, military readiness, and collaborative responses among the three armed services as the security landscape evolves.

Earlier this week, PM Modi led a significant meeting with the Chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, alongside Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

During this high-stakes review, the Prime Minister provided the military leaders with a clear directive: the armed forces will determine the timing, method, and targets for India's response. The political leadership has reportedly lifted all restrictions, indicating that a robust and measured counteraction may be imminent.

In a related development, India has halted the exchange of all mail and parcels with Pakistan via both air and land routes as of Saturday.

This directive was issued by the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications, following India's complete ban on direct and indirect imports from Pakistan, the prohibition of Pakistan-flagged vessels from docking at Indian ports, and the restriction on Indian ships traveling to Pakistani ports.

These consecutive actions are a direct consequence of the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam district, which resulted in the loss of 26 civilian lives. The Indian government has cited 'cross-border linkages' as a factor in the attack and has vowed to take stringent measures against those accountable.
