Major Operation in Shopian District

In a significant operation, security forces apprehended two individuals identified as 'hybrid terrorists' linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. This development was confirmed by officials on Thursday, who described it as a major success.

Hybrid terrorists are individuals who are not officially listed as terrorists but have become radicalized enough to carry out attacks. They often blend in with the civilian population and can execute attacks when the opportunity arises, returning to normal life afterward.

Providing details about the operation, officials stated that security forces initiated a cordon and search operation in the Poonch district's Baskuchan area on Wednesday night based on specific intelligence. They noted, 'The area was effectively cordoned off, and terrorist activities were observed in a nearby orchard.'

Thanks to the swift and strategic actions of the security forces, the two hybrid terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba surrendered, averting a potential encounter. The individuals have been identified as Irfan Bashir and Uzair Salam.

From their possession, authorities recovered two AK-56 rifles, four magazines, 102 rounds of ammunition, two grenades, two pouches, cash amounting to 5,400 rupees, a mobile phone, a smartwatch, and an Aadhaar card. Officials have stated that a case has been registered, and an investigation is underway.
