Revival of FNG Expressway Project Promises Enhanced Connectivity

Progress on the Long-Delayed FNG Expressway
The FNG (Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad) expressway project, which has been at a standstill for 13 years, is poised for renewed progress. The Noida Authority has recently engaged the Public Works Department (PWD) to address the outstanding issues that have hindered intercity connectivity.
Spanning 56 kilometers, the expressway includes a 23-kilometer section in Noida, with the remainder divided between Faridabad and Ghaziabad. Recent discussions between the Noida Authority and PWD have shown a mutual interest in revisiting and modifying the implementation strategy.
New Detailed Project Report for FNG Expressway
The updated Detailed Project Report (DPR) outlines three potential alignments for the incomplete segment. A PWD official confirmed that the survey for these alignments has been completed, and the final routing will be determined once the department headquarters gives its approval.
Construction of a Six-Lane Bridge Over the Yamuna
A significant aspect of the revised plan is the construction of a six-lane bridge over the Yamuna River, connecting Noida and Faridabad. This bridge will span approximately 600 meters and will be located between Sector 168 and Sector 167A. The estimated cost for this bridge is around Rs 200 crore, which will be jointly funded by the governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
Infrastructure Enhancements Along the FNG Route
In Noida, infrastructure improvements are in progress, including the addition of an elevated road and two underpasses for the FNG route. The plans feature a 3.68 km underpass (estimated at Rs 30.29 crore), a 650-meter elevated road (approximately Rs 633 crore), and a 75-meter wide approach road.
Widespread Benefits of the Project
This project is expected to benefit over 30 sectors and more than 1,000 industries. Additional patch roads are being constructed to link all bridges and underpasses, enhancing connectivity to Greater Noida West and Greater Faridabad. Officials are hopeful that this long-awaited initiative will finally address the persistent traffic challenges in the NCR region.
