Cabinet Minister Urges Zero Tolerance Against Drug Traffickers

Punjab Government's Commitment to Combat Drug Trafficking

Punjab News Today (Media House), Patiala: During a media briefing following a review of the 'War Against Drugs' initiative, Cabinet Minister Aman Arora reaffirmed the Punjab government's dedication to eradicating drug abuse. He emphasized that no individual involved in drug trafficking will be spared, regardless of their position or political affiliation.

A Public Movement Against Drugs

Arora mentioned that he is currently assessing the progress of this campaign in Patiala, Kapurthala, and Sri Amritsar Sahib. He stated that the 'War Against Drugs' has transformed into a public movement. Thanks to community support, a significant number of drug traffickers have been incarcerated, and large quantities of narcotics have been seized over the past 16 days.

Two-Pronged Strategy Adopted by the State Government

He explained that under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann's leadership, the Punjab government has implemented a dual strategy to combat drug abuse. On one hand, strict actions are being taken to disrupt the supply chain of drugs, while on the other, rehabilitation programs for drug victims are being initiated. This includes vocational training for those who wish to quit drugs, enabling them to become self-sufficient and support their families.

Criticism of Opposition Parties

Aman Arora, the state president of the Aam Aadmi Party, criticized the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP and Congress, claiming that previous governments allowed a nexus between political leaders and drug traffickers, which severely harmed Punjab's youth. He asserted that the Aam Aadmi Party government has been working to dismantle this alliance for the past three years, marking this as a pivotal moment to end this dark chapter.
