PIB Fact Check Debunks False Claims About Jaishankar and Chinese Satellites

Clarification on Misquoted Statements

On Thursday, the fact-checking unit of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) addressed a misleading claim that was broadcasted by various news channels and circulated on social media. This claim suggested that External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar had stated that Chinese satellites were assisting Pakistan.

The PIB fact-check unit posted on X, stating, "Numerous news channels and social media posts have asserted that External Affairs Minister @DrSJaishankar claimed Chinese satellites aided Pakistan."

Previous Alerts on Fake Information

Previously, the PIB fact-check unit also warned about a fabricated letter that was falsely attributed to the Defence Minister of India, which was being shared on social media.

Debunking Claims of Indian Casualties

On the same day, the PIB fact-checking unit also refuted a false narrative regarding Indian casualties in Operation Sindoor. Several accounts based in Pakistan shared images claiming they depicted the last rites of an Indian Air Force Rafale pilot who supposedly died on May 7.

The PIB clarified that this assertion was entirely false, revealing that the image in question was from 2008 and had no connection to the current situation.

The PIB fact-checking unit stated on X, "An old image is going viral on social media, with many Pakistan-based accounts claiming that it shows the last rites of a Rafale pilot of the #IndianAirForce who died on 7 May 2025. This claim is completely fake. The image is actually from 2008 and unrelated to the current context."
