Inauguration of the North East Power Conclave 2025
Guwahati, June 18: The North East Power Conclave 2025 commenced in Guwahati, attracting over 500 attendees and significant industry participation.
High-ranking officials from various northeastern states, including Power Ministers from Nagaland and Mizoram, along with Power Secretaries, are set to engage in discussions aimed at shaping the future of sustainable energy systems. The focus will be on green energy initiatives, advanced transmission technologies, and inter-state collaboration.
This conclave is organized by the Indian Electrical and Electronics Manufacturers’ Association.
According to a statement, the two-day event seeks to enhance regional cooperation, boost infrastructure investments, and tackle the specific challenges and opportunities that the Northeast faces in its energy development. The agenda encompasses everything from sustainable energy generation to smart transmission and last-mile connectivity, reflecting a comprehensive strategy for regional advancement.
During the opening session, KG Kenye, the Minister for Power in Nagaland, emphasized the need for greater industry focus on the region. He stated, “We have encountered resource limitations due to political circumstances, which have deterred private investors and large corporations. However, the situation is evolving. The current environment is favorable, and private partnerships are starting to emerge.”
Mizoram's Power Minister, F Rodingliana, stressed the immediate necessity to revitalize small hydropower projects.
Sunil Singhvi, president of IEEMA, underscored the region's vital contribution to the national renewable energy strategy. He remarked, “The Northeast possesses immense potential, with around 58,000 megawatts of hydroelectric capacity, essential for achieving our renewable energy goals. I estimate that the region could attract investments ranging from Rs 60,000 to Rs 70,000 crore over the next decade, whether in hydropower generation or grid development. Despite geographical hurdles, modern technologies can be effectively implemented here.”
The event also included technical sessions featuring representatives from Power Grid, REC, PFC, CEA, and NEEPCO, who explored opportunities in grid integration, next-generation transmission, and financing strategies for future regional projects.
Additionally, a buyer-seller meeting was held alongside the conclave, providing participating companies with a platform to establish lucrative business partnerships aimed at fostering growth.
