D Gukesh Triumphs Over Magnus Carlsen Again in Super United Chess Tournament

Gukesh's Remarkable Victory
Indian chess prodigy D Gukesh has once again outperformed world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen, marking his second consecutive victory against the reigning champion. This win positions Gukesh at the forefront of the standings after the initial six rounds of the Super United Rapid and Blitz Chess tournament, part of the prestigious Grand Chess Tour.
Previously, Gukesh had triumphed over Carlsen in a classical match during the Norway Chess event a few weeks ago. In this latest encounter, Gukesh managed to compel Carlsen to resign after 49 moves, despite the Norwegian playing with the white pieces, showcasing his prowess in the rapid format.
Currently, Gukesh leads with 10 points, while Carlsen trails with six points, with one day remaining in the three-day rapid segment of the tournament.
Former world champion Garry Kasparov expressed his thoughts on Carlsen's recent performances during the official commentary, stating, “This isn’t merely a second defeat for Magnus against Gukesh; it’s a decisive loss. It’s not a fluke. This match was fiercely contested, and Magnus came up short.”
Before the tournament commenced, Carlsen had categorized Gukesh among the 'presumably weaker players,' suggesting that the young Indian needed to demonstrate his capabilities in rapid formats.
“Gukesh hasn’t shown anything to suggest he will excel in rapid and blitz formats. He must prove himself among this highly competitive field,” Carlsen remarked.
However, Gukesh has silenced critics with his performance. After an initial loss to Jan-Krzysztof Duda, he has since secured victories against notable players including Alireza Firouzja, R Praggnanandhaa, Nodirbek Abdusattorov, Fabiano Caruana, and now Carlsen.
On the other hand, Praggnanandhaa currently sits in seventh place with five points, having recorded five draws and one loss.
