Safety Measures for Indian Students in Iran

In light of escalating military tensions between Tehran and Israel, some Indian students are being relocated to safer areas within Iran, as announced by the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday.

The ministry stated, “The Indian embassy in Tehran is actively monitoring the security landscape and is in contact with Indian students to ensure their well-being.”

Additionally, the embassy is exploring other viable options for student safety. “The embassy is also coordinating with community leaders to discuss welfare and security matters,” the statement noted.

On Sunday, Russia reported that it had evacuated several of its citizens from Iran and suspended consular operations in Tehran due to the ongoing conflict, according to reports.

This situation escalated after Israel conducted airstrikes on Friday, targeting what it claimed were nuclear facilities and other strategic sites in Iran, aiming to disrupt Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. These actions have raised concerns about a potential broader conflict.

The Israeli Defense Forces targeted locations in Tehran and other cities, including Iran’s primary nuclear enrichment site in Natanz.

In retaliation, Iran launched missile strikes on various locations in Israel, including major cities like Tel Aviv and Haifa.

Israel also targeted the Shahran fuel depot in Tehran, igniting a fire, and struck Shahr Rey, one of Iran's largest oil refineries, along with a segment of the South Pars Gas Field, one of the largest gas reserves globally.

On Sunday, Israel continued its offensive against Iran, marking the third consecutive day of strikes across the nation.

The Iranian military persisted with missile assaults on Israel on Monday.

Reports indicate that at least 14 individuals in Israel have died due to Iranian missile strikes, as per news sources.

Israel had previously asserted that Iran was “closer than ever” to acquiring a nuclear weapon, emphasizing its obligation to protect its citizens.

Iran has consistently claimed that its nuclear initiatives are intended for peaceful purposes.
