Missing Indians in Iran: Embassy Takes Action

The Indian Embassy in Tehran reported on Wednesday that three Indian nationals have gone missing after arriving in Iran. The embassy has reached out to Iranian officials, urging them to locate the missing individuals and ensure their safety.

In a statement shared on social media, the embassy noted, "Families of three Indians have informed us that their relatives are unaccounted for after traveling to Iran. We have escalated this issue with Iranian authorities, requesting an urgent search for the missing individuals and their safety to be prioritized."

Details of the Abduction

The Indian mission is actively updating the families of the missing men about the ongoing search efforts. According to the mother of one of the missing individuals, all three, who are from Punjab, have reportedly been held captive since May 1, with ransom demands made by their captors.

The trio, identified as Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur, had initially left Delhi with plans to travel to Australia on work permits. However, their agents diverted them to Iran, claiming it was merely a stopover, leading to their abduction.

Ransom Demands and Travel Agent's Role

A travel agent in Punjab had assured the three men that they would be sent to Australia via a route through Dubai and Iran, promising only a brief stay in Iran. Unfortunately, upon their arrival on May 1, they were kidnapped, with families reporting that the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of Rs 1 crore.

The embassy has committed to keeping the families informed about any developments. "We are regularly updating the family members on the actions being taken by the Embassy," the statement concluded.

As of now, further information regarding the identities of the missing individuals, their last known locations, or the reasons for their travel to Iran remains undisclosed.
