BCCI Leadership Transition Ahead

The tenure of BCCI President Roger Binny is set to conclude this July, coinciding with his 70th birthday. According to the BCCI constitution, individuals cannot hold office beyond this age. Sources indicate that current BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla may assume the role of interim president for three months leading up to the annual general meeting scheduled for September. During this AGM, Shukla, who is also a Member of Parliament and former IPL president, could potentially run for a full term as BCCI president.

Rajeev Shukla's Background

Currently serving as the vice president of the cricket board, Rajeev Shukla will fulfill the president's responsibilities until a new individual is elected. Binny was appointed as BCCI president in 2022, succeeding Sourav Ganguly. The former fast bowler represented India in 27 Tests and 72 ODIs, claiming a total of 124 wickets. He played a pivotal role in India's historic 1983 World Cup victory, where he emerged as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 18 wickets across eight matches.

Shukla's Experience in Cricket Administration

Rajeev Shukla has held the position of BCCI vice president since 2020. He previously served as the secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA) until 2017 and was the IPL president until 2018. Earlier this year, Devjeet Saikia was appointed as the BCCI secretary, taking over from Jay Shah, who became the chairman of the ICC. Saikia was elected unopposed.
