BCCI Implements New Rules for IPL 2025 Amid Rain Challenges

Significant Changes in IPL 2025

As of now, 61 matches have been conducted in IPL 2025, with only 9 more games remaining in the league stage. These upcoming matches are crucial, especially considering the playoff race. However, the tournament has faced disruptions due to rain and the monsoon, resulting in three matches being abandoned. In response, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has made a significant decision regarding the remaining matches.

To address the unpredictable weather, the BCCI has introduced new regulations and additional time allowances to ensure fair and exciting matches.

BCCI Extends Additional Time for Matches

The BCCI has announced an extension of the additional time allocated for IPL matches by one hour. Starting from May 20, all IPL matches will now have an additional waiting time of 120 minutes. Previously, this period was limited to one hour. The BCCI confirmed that this change, effective immediately, is in accordance with the revised playing conditions (Clause 13.7.3). All teams have been informed of this adjustment.

In an official statement, the BCCI noted, 'Similar to the playoff phase, an extra hour will be allocated for the remaining league stage matches starting Tuesday, May 20.' Previously, it was stipulated that in case of delays, league matches would have an additional hour available to commence play, while playoff matches had a 120-minute allowance. The IPL governing council has now revised this policy.

Announcement of Playoff Venues

The IPL governing council has also revealed the venues for the playoff matches, taking into account the potential for rain. The final of IPL 2025 is scheduled to take place on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with Qualifier 2 also being held there on June 1. Additionally, the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur will host Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator on May 29 and 30, respectively.
