Caste Census and Future Plans

Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the Samajwadi Party, emphasized on Friday that a proper caste census will only be conducted in 2027 under a government representing the backward classes, Dalits, and minorities (PDA). Speaking to the media, Yadav stated that the census will take place in 2027, ensuring its accuracy only under a PDA government. Additionally, he claimed that there is an incomplete museum dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Agra, which the Samajwadi Party government will not only complete but will also erect a grand statue of Shivaji Maharaj in Lucknow.

Yadav remarked, "In honor of great personalities like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj... there exists an unfinished museum in Agra, designed by world-renowned architects... We, as Samajwadi, will not only establish a museum in his name but also install a magnificent statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj at the Lucknow riverfront; his throne will be made of gold. The Samajwadi Party will continue to honor him in 2027 as well." The upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh in 2027 are expected to be a contest between the two major parties, the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party, with the Congress likely to ally with the Samajwadi Party.

In the current session, the Uttar Pradesh Assembly consists of 403 elected members, including 258 from the Bharatiya Janata Party, 107 from the Samajwadi Party, and 13 from the Apna Dal. Additionally, there are nine members from the Rashtriya Lok Dal, six from the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, five from the Nirbal Indian Shoshit Hamara Aam Dal, two each from the Janata Dal (Democratic) and Congress, and only one representative from the Bahujan Samaj Party. Earlier today, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, participated in a 'Constituent Assembly' in Rajgir, Nalanda. During his address, Gandhi stressed the necessity of a caste census and criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi's stance on the issue.
