Changing Dynamics of Warfare

Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Chief of Naval Staff, stated on Thursday that while the essence of warfare has remained constant over centuries, its character has undergone rapid transformation, leading to increasingly blurred lines between war and peace.

During his speech at the CII summit, he remarked, “We are also aware that unconventional threats, such as acts of terrorism, can quickly escalate into widespread conflicts.”

His remarks come in the context of heightened military tensions between India and Pakistan following a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which lasted for four days. Admiral Tripathi emphasized, “The nature of warfare has been consistent over centuries, yet its character is changing swiftly, and this trend continues. The distinctions between war and peace are becoming increasingly indistinct.”

The naval chief further noted, “Our ability to rapidly adopt technologies, transform them into combat capabilities, scale up production when necessary, and continuously innovate and adapt will define our collective security.”
