Counterfeit Currency Operation Exposed in Odisha


Bhadrak: Authorities in Odisha have dismantled a counterfeit currency operation, resulting in the arrest of two individuals, as reported by local police on Monday.


On Saturday, a suspect was apprehended by residents in Ananda Bazar, located within the jurisdiction of the Bhadrak Rural police station, while in possession of counterfeit currency notes, according to DSP Sambit Kumar Majhi.


The seized fake notes had a total face value of Rs 7,100, the DSP confirmed.


Following the arrest, police interrogated the suspect, leading them to the mastermind behind the operation, who was later captured in the Dasarathpur area of Jajpur district.


This individual had a prior arrest record in Andhra Pradesh for a similar offense, Majhi noted.


Upon searching his residence, police discovered counterfeit notes valued at Rs 2.72 lakh.


The suspect was found to have established a sophisticated network for the distribution of fake currency, employing advanced techniques in their production.


Initial investigations revealed that he sold counterfeit notes worth Rs 1 lakh for just Rs 20,000 in genuine currency.


Additionally, he was wanted in connection with another case in Balasore district.
