Serious Accusations Against Boxing Coach

A coach at the National Boxing Academy in Rohtak, affiliated with the Sports Authority of India, faces allegations of sexual harassment from a minor boxer. According to the FIR filed by the girl's parents, she has been suffering from depression due to ongoing 'mental and physical abuse.'

In response to the allegations, both the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) confirmed they received a complaint from the 17-year-old athlete regarding intimidation and instances of slapping. However, they denied any knowledge of sexual harassment as claimed in the FIR.

Both organizations stated that their internal inquiries found no evidence against the coach, who remains actively involved in leading the national training camp for junior and youth boxers.

The FIR, filed at a police station in Rohtak, details that the coach allegedly attempted to forcibly undress the victim, slapped her multiple times, threatened to sabotage her career, and publicly labeled her a 'person of bad character,' which led to her feeling isolated from her peers.

SAI has expressed its willingness to assist with the investigation as needed. They noted, 'We have not yet received a copy of any FIR. However, a complaint was submitted by a female boxer from NBA Rohtak via email on April 24, 2025, alleging mental and physical harassment by a female coach during an invitational boxing tournament in Ireland from March 25 to April 3, 2025. No claims of sexual harassment were made in that complaint,' stated the SAI Regional Centre in Sonepat.

The organization added that a thorough inquiry was conducted, gathering statements from the complainant, the accused coach, fellow coaches, staff, and other athletes, but the allegations could not be substantiated. SAI reiterated its commitment to maintaining integrity in sports and will cooperate fully with any investigation stemming from the FIR.

The victim's parents expressed dissatisfaction with how the BFI has managed the situation. They detailed the alleged abuse, claiming that during the Ireland tour, the coach not only humiliated their daughter but also molested her.

However, SAI reported that during their investigation, none of the other boxers present on the tour supported these claims, asserting that no such incidents occurred in their view.

The parents learned of their daughter's distress from one of her campmates and hurried to Rohtak, where she eventually opened up about her experiences.
