Yuvraj Singh's New Journey with Delhi Capitals

New Delhi: Yuvraj Singh, the former star of white-ball cricket, is set to join the Delhi Capitals as their batting coach for the upcoming IPL 2027 season, according to sources familiar with the situation.

Having been named the player of the tournament in both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup, Yuvraj has recently served as a personal mentor to current Indian captain Shubman Gill and the top-ranked T20 batter, Abhishek Sharma.

Rishabh Pant also turned to Yuvraj for guidance during a challenging phase in his career.

This role with Delhi Capitals marks Yuvraj's inaugural coaching position in the lucrative IPL.

His last appearance in the IPL was in 2019, where he played for the Mumbai Indians before retiring from competitive cricket.

"A complete revamp of the coaching staff is on the horizon for Delhi Capitals, as JSW will take over management for the 2027-28 seasons, according to the agreement. The current trio of Venugopal Rao, Hemang Badani, and Munaf Patel, appointed by co-owners GMR, will be replaced by new support staff," an IPL source revealed.

"Sourav Ganguly will assume the role of Director of Cricket, with Yuvraj stepping in as the batting coach," the source added.

Under the terms of the agreement, GMR and JSW will alternate in managing the men's team every two years.

The Capitals have struggled to qualify for the playoffs in the last two seasons, with their strategies and player selections during auctions raising concerns.

It is believed that Ganguly, who was Yuvraj's first international captain, played a significant role in bringing him on board.

While Ganguly oversees the cricketing operations, including JSW's SA20 franchise Pretoria Capitals and the DC Women’s team, Yuvraj will focus solely on the men's team.

There is speculation about whether Rishabh Pant, who is likely to depart from Lucknow Super Giants, could be traded to Delhi Capitals in exchange for one or two players from the current roster.
