On May 22, 2026, the karate community in India rejoiced as 10-year-old Yakshitha Deepakkumar from Bangalore clinched a bronze medal at the 2S Karate Championship 2026, which took place in Malaysia. This prestigious tournament, centered around kumite (fighting), attracted around 1,600 competitors from six nations, including Malaysia, Singapore, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.

Yakshitha's Remarkable Journey

Yakshitha participated in the girls' individual kumite category for ages 10 to 11, which had 32 competitors. She represented the National Martial Arts & Fitness Academy (NMFA) and was coached by R Prabakaran. Her journey through multiple rounds culminated in a commendable third-place finish.
