The 2025 edition of WWE SummerSlam took place over two nights at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. This marked the first time the event was held across two nights, making it the 38th annual SummerSlam and the largest in its history, as highlighted by Stephanie McMahon on the second night.

As WWE SummerSlam approached, there were concerns regarding the authenticity of Seth Rollins' knee injury, which he sustained during the Saturday Night's Main Event on the USA Network. Ultimately, it was revealed to be a storyline injury, as Rollins discarded his crutches and cashed in his Money in the Bank contract on CM Punk during the first night of the event. However, WWE is still addressing a real injury that emerged from the premium live event.

Injury Updates Following SummerSlam

According to reports from various sources, updates regarding injuries post-SummerSlam indicate that Rollins' successful cash-in was planned prior to the Saturday Night's Main Event on July 12. While Rollins' injury was fabricated, his ally Bron Breakker appears to have suffered a legitimate injury during the event.

“Bron Breakker got hurt. I don’t know the severity yet,” stated Dave Meltzer in a follow-up on WWE SummerSlam 2025. “He was limping really bad going to the back, and it was taped up a lot. My presumption was that they were going to join in on killing Punk. They just let Rollins do it. He came out, he could walk on it, but it’s not like he ran in or anything like that or got involved in that finish.”

After the opening tag team match against Roman Reigns and Jey Uso, fans noticed Bron Breakker limping backstage with assistance from a WWE official. He later returned to the ring during the post-celebration of Rollins' Money in the Bank cash-in, but his right leg was heavily bandaged.

The first night of WWE SummerSlam 2025 featured a main event where Gunther faced CM Punk, who won the World Heavyweight Championship, only for Seth Rollins to cash in his Money in the Bank contract and become the new champion. The repercussions of this title change are expected to unfold on tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw.
