WPL 2026: Jemimah Rodrigues Opts to Bowl First Against Gujarat Giants
Match 4 of WPL 2026 Begins in Navi Mumbai
Navi Mumbai: In the fourth match of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, Delhi Capitals' captain Jemimah Rodrigues won the toss and chose to bowl first against the Gujarat Giants at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium on Sunday.
Both teams retained the same playing XI that participated in their opening matches on Saturday.
The start of WPL 2026 has been quite different for the two teams; while Gujarat Giants secured a victory against UP Warriorz, Delhi Capitals faced a defeat against the reigning champions, Mumbai Indians.
After the toss, Rodrigues explained her decision to field first, citing the ground's tendency to favor chasing teams and the potential impact of dew. She mentioned that the quick turnaround has allowed them to stay focused without overthinking their strategy.
Gujarat Giants' captain Ashleigh Gardner reflected on the lessons learned from their previous match. When asked about the young talent Anushka Sharma, who contributed significantly with a score of 44 against UP Warriorz, Gardner expressed her excitement about new players making an immediate impact in the WPL.
