A serious incident occurred during the Major League Pickleball (MLP) final in New York, where a strong gust of wind caused a baseline LED scoreboard to topple over, trapping player Rachel Rohrabacher's leg. This unexpected event led to a significant delay in the match between the Bay Area Breakers and the Brooklyn Pickleball Team. Initially, the weather was calm, but conditions worsened as the game progressed, resulting in the scoreboard, which is approximately 30 feet wide, collapsing onto the court.

Players and event staff quickly rushed to the scene to lift the scoreboard and free Rohrabacher's leg. The match was paused for around 30 minutes while officials assessed the situation and ensured the court's safety. Major League Pickleball later confirmed via their Instagram Story that the incident was due to high winds and emphasized their commitment to player safety. They stated, "During today's match between the Brooklyn Pickleball Team and Bay Area Breakers, a strong wind gust caused a baseline LED board to tip over, temporarily halting play."

Rohrabacher Unharmed

Fortunately, Rohrabacher did not sustain any injuries. Once the scoreboard was secured, play resumed, and additional safety measures were put in place for the remainder of the event. The league reiterated that the safety of players, fans, and staff is their highest priority and that they would continue to monitor weather conditions closely.

Although Rohrabacher was able to leave the court on her own, she did not return after the interruption. The Bay Area Breakers women's team ultimately conceded the match to Brooklyn, with Hannah Blatt stepping in to represent Brooklyn for the remainder of the game. After the delay, play resumed, and Brooklyn Pickleball Team secured a 3-1 victory. This incident highlighted the potential impact of rapidly changing weather on outdoor sports, with both teams momentarily setting aside competition to assist Rohrabacher before the match continued.
