Wiaan Mulder Sets Record with Triple Century in Test Debut as Captain

Historic Achievement by Wiaan Mulder
On Monday, Wiaan Mulder, the all-rounder from South Africa, made history during his debut as captain in a Test match against Zimbabwe at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. He became the first player in Test cricket history to score a triple century in his debut innings as captain. Continuing from his unbeaten score of 264 runs, Mulder reached the remarkable milestone of 300 runs off 297 balls, marking the second-fastest triple century in Test cricket history. The only player to achieve a faster triple century is India's Virender Sehwag, who scored 300 runs in 278 balls against South Africa in Chennai in 2008.
Breaking Multiple Records
In this innings, Mulder surpassed the record set by New Zealand's Graham Dowling, who scored 239 runs in his debut as captain against India in 1969. He also broke the record of Graeme Smith, who scored 277 runs against England in 2003. With this performance, Mulder has now become the highest-scoring captain for South Africa. Additionally, he eclipsed Harry Brook's record, who scored a triple century in 310 balls against Pakistan last year.
This match marked only Mulder's 21st Test appearance, making him the second South African player to score a triple century in Test cricket, following Hashim Amla. His innings has now etched its name in the annals of South African cricket history.
