RCB's Decision to Cancel Victory Parade

Ahmedabad: Fans of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will not have the opportunity to celebrate their team's title defense with a victory parade this year. The franchise has opted against the event to prevent a repeat of last year's tragic stampede incident.

RCB secured their second consecutive IPL championship by defeating the Gujarat Titans by five wickets on Sunday.

The decision to cancel the parade was also influenced by the upcoming swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka's new Chief Minister, DK Shivakumar.

Scheduled for 4:10 PM at Lok Bhavan, this political event is expected to draw a large crowd, especially since the Governor's residence is located near the Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Given the anticipated turnout, the police will be stretched thin, making it challenging to manage security for both events.

In light of these circumstances, RCB management decided to comply with police directives that discourage public celebrations in the city.

Last year, a hasty victory parade resulted in the tragic loss of 11 lives near Chinnaswamy Stadium, prompting widespread outrage and governmental intervention.

An RCB source indicated, "It is highly unlikely that there will be any activities in Bengaluru. We must adhere to the guidelines in place."

On Friday, Bengaluru city police issued a warning to the public, advising against bursting fireworks, holding street celebrations, or causing disturbances if RCB were to win the IPL final.

"We will not permit any public celebrations. Fans wishing to celebrate should do so indoors," stated Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh.

Additionally, RCB's top-order batsman Devdutt Padikkal is set to join the Indian Test squad in Mullanpur by Wednesday for an upcoming Test against Afghanistan, while teammates like Josh Hazlewood, Tim David, Jacob Duffy, and Romario Shepherd also have national commitments ahead.
