Mohammed Shami's SIR Verification Hearing Rescheduled

Kolkata: Cricketer Mohammed Shami has been summoned for a verification hearing regarding his SIR status, as confirmed by officials on Tuesday.

The hearing was initially set for Monday at a school in Jadavpur, where Shami was expected to appear alongside his brother, Mohammed Kaif. However, due to his commitment to the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Rajkot, he was unable to attend.

Shami has since requested the Election Commission to provide alternative dates, and his hearing has been rescheduled to take place between January 9 and 11.

As a voter in Kolkata Municipal Corporation's ward 93, which falls under the Rashbehari constituency, Shami's participation is crucial.

An official from the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer's office stated, "The cricketer and his brother were called for the hearing due to inaccuracies in their Enumeration Form."

Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Shami has made Kolkata his home for several years, driven by his cricketing career. He moved to the city at a young age and trained under former Bengal Ranji captain Sambaran Bandyopadhyay, eventually securing a place on the state’s under-22 team.
