ICC Announces Player of the Month Nominees for June 2025


In Dubai, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the nominees for the Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for June 2025, featuring standout performances from Aiden Markram, Kagiso Rabada, and Pathum Nissanka.


Markram was instrumental in South Africa's remarkable victory in the ICC World Test Championship Final against Australia at Lord’s. He not only took the crucial wicket of Steve Smith but also played a pivotal role in the successful chase of 282 runs, scoring an impressive 136. His partnerships with Wiaan Mulder and the injured captain Temba Bavuma were key to securing South Africa's first major ICC men's trophy in 27 years.


Rabada spearheaded the bowling attack for South Africa during the WTC Final, showcasing his usual consistency and aggression. He achieved figures of 5/49 in the first innings, surpassing Allan Donald to become South Africa's leading Test wicket-taker. Overall, he took nine wickets in the match, significantly restricting Australia's scoring and keeping South Africa competitive after a challenging first innings.


On the other hand, Nissanka emerged as the star for Sri Lanka in their Test series against Bangladesh. He scored a career-high 187 in the first Test, which helped his team secure a draw, and followed it up with 158 in the second Test, leading Sri Lanka to a victory by an innings and 78 runs. Nissanka concluded the series as the top scorer, demonstrating remarkable consistency and composure.


In the women's category, South African batter Tazmin Brits is nominated alongside West Indies players Hayley Matthews and Afy Fletcher. Brits had a stellar month, accumulating 184 runs in the ODI series against the West Indies, including a century (101 off 91 balls) in the final match, which helped South Africa clinch the series 2-1.


In the T20I series, Brits began with a strong performance, scoring an unbeaten 98, although her subsequent matches yielded lower scores. She finished the T20Is with 132 runs at an average of 66.


Matthews played a crucial role in leading the West Indies to a T20I series victory over South Africa, scoring 147 runs across three matches at an average of 73.50, including unbeaten scores of 63 and 65 in the last two games. Her contributions with the ball, including two wickets, earned her the Player of the Series title.


Fletcher stood out as the leading bowler in both the ODI and T20I series against South Africa, taking nine wickets in the ODIs at an average of 24 and five wickets in the T20Is. Her exceptional bowling was vital in the West Indies' comeback to win the T20I series, effectively containing the South African batters during critical moments.
