Celebrating Sanju Samson's Achievements

New Delhi: The Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan, recently honored Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson for his significant contributions to India's victory at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup held earlier this month.

On March 16, Vijayan welcomed the World Cup champion to his official residence, Cliff House, to celebrate his remarkable achievements.

Dressed in traditional attire, the 31-year-old Samson received a commemorative memento from Vijayan, which read, “We salute Sanju Viswanath Samson.”

This token of appreciation also recognized his vital performances during the tournament's knockout stages, including a stunning 97 runs off 50 balls against the West Indies in the Super 8, an impressive 89 off 42 in the semifinal against England, and another 89 off 46 in the final against New Zealand.

Vijayan shared the experience on X, expressing, “Had the pleasure of hosting India’s pride and Kerala’s own, Sanju Samson, at Cliff House yesterday. Conveyed the profound love and joy of the people of Kerala. May he draw strength from his recent achievements and continue to scale new heights. Wishing him the very best!”

Samson's journey throughout the tournament faced its share of hurdles. Initially, he was not included in India's playing XI for the opening match, with Ishan Kishan selected as the wicketkeeper alongside opener Abhishek Sharma. His position in the squad was also questioned after he scored only 46 runs in five matches during a home T20I series against New Zealand prior to the World Cup.

However, he turned the situation around with a series of match-winning performances, establishing himself as one of the key players in India's successful campaign.

After the celebrations, the Kerala batter is now focused on the upcoming Indian Premier League season, where he will debut with the Chennai Super Kings, the tournament's five-time champions.

Chennai will kick off their IPL 2026 journey against Samson’s former team, the Rajasthan Royals, in Guwahati on March 30. Following that, they will face the Punjab Kings at home on April 3, travel to play against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 5, and return home to take on Delhi Capitals on April 11. The team aims to rebound strongly this season after finishing last in IPL 2025 with only four wins from 14 matches.
