Aparajita Gochhikar's Historic Appointment

Bhubaneswar: Chess player Aparajita Gochhikar from Odisha has been named a Fair Play Expert and a member of the Fair Play Panel for the upcoming 46th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2026, which will take place in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, from September 14 to 28.

Notably, Gochhikar is the first Indian woman to serve on the Fair Play Panel for the FIDE Chess Olympiad on two occasions. Additionally, she holds the distinction of being the first Indian woman to receive the Fair Play Expert (FPE) title from the International Chess Federation (FIDE).

The 46th Chess Olympiad is a major event in the global chess scene, attracting participants from over 200 nations. The competition will see 400 teams competing, with 208 in the Open section and 192 in the women's section.

Her appointment has been met with enthusiasm from the chess community in Odisha and throughout India, with many players and officials offering their congratulations as she prepares for this prestigious role.
