What’s Next for India’s Cricketing Future? BCCI’s Strategic Meeting with VVS Laxman

BCCI's Vision for Cricket Development

Mumbai: The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Devajit Saikia, recently convened with VVS Laxman, the head of the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE), to outline future strategies for the center. This significant meeting took place at the BCCI headquarters and included other key officials such as President Mithun Manhas and Vice-President Rajeev Shukla.

Saikia shared on Facebook, "Had a productive discussion with VVS Laxman regarding the CoE's current initiatives and future plans, focusing on enhancing India's cricket talent pipeline."

In a previous statement, Saikia refuted rumors suggesting that Laxman would take over as head coach of the Indian team following disappointing performances in Test cricket.

Since taking over the CoE in 2021, Laxman has been pivotal in the BCCI's commitment to nurturing the Under-19 team. The organization has intensified efforts to cultivate young talent at the CoE, which includes promising players like Ayush Mhatre and other U19 stars.

About a year ago, the BCCI announced plans to expand the CoE, aiming to provide young cricketers with a top-tier training environment equipped with all necessary resources for success.

The recent defeat of the Under-19 team in the Asia Cup final has sparked discussions about the effectiveness of the CoE. Reports have surfaced indicating dissatisfaction among BCCI officials regarding Gautam Gambhir's coaching, with speculation about Laxman potentially stepping in. However, some sources suggest Laxman is hesitant to leave his current role, which involves less travel.
