Sir Garfield Sobers, who passed away on July 17, was a remarkable player for the West Indies, participating in 93 Test matches from 1954 to 1974. He amassed 8,032 runs at an average of 57.78, including 26 centuries, and took 235 wickets.

Chase's Heartfelt Message

In a video released by Cricket West Indies, Chase expressed that Sobers continues to inspire the team and hoped the cricketing legend would be proud of their performance. He stated, "On behalf of the West Indies senior cricket men's team, we dedicate this victory to the late great Sir Garfield Sobers. He is a hero to everyone in this dressing room. Today, he would have turned 90, and we won by 90 runs, so it feels destined for him."

Chase mentioned that the team had discussed how to honor Sobers with their victory and expressed hope that he was smiling down on them. He added, "We talked about making him feel special in his grave, and I hope he's smiling on us right now. Thank you, Sir Garfield Sobers, for everything you've done for West Indies cricket. We hope you're happy and may you continue to rest in peace."

West Indies Takes Series Lead

The West Indies secured a 1-0 lead in the two-match series against Pakistan with their 90-run victory. Jayden Seales was instrumental, taking five wickets and helping bowl Pakistan out for 120 while they were chasing a target of 211 runs. This defeat marked Pakistan's eighth consecutive loss in away Tests.

The second Test match between the West Indies and Pakistan is set to begin in Port of Spain on August 2.
