West Indies Celebrate a Historic Win

Tarouba [Trinidad and Tobago], August 13: The West Indies have ended a 34-year wait for a series win against Pakistan, triumphing by 202 runs in Trinidad on Tuesday, as reported by the ICC.

Captain Shai Hope played a pivotal role, scoring an unbeaten 120 runs, which propelled the West Indies to a total of 294/6. In response, Pakistan struggled, being dismissed for a mere 92 runs, allowing the home team to secure a 2-1 series victory.

This marks the West Indies' first bilateral ODI series win over Pakistan since November 1991, boosting their confidence as they aim for a spot in the 2027 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup after missing out on the recent tournament in India.

Initially, the West Indies faced challenges when Gudakesh Motie was out for five runs in the 42nd over, leaving the score at 184/6. However, Hope and Justin Greaves (43 not out) rallied together with some impressive late hitting to set a competitive total at the Brian Lara Stadium.

This century was Hope's 18th in ODIs, surpassing the legendary Desmond Haynes (17) and placing him third among West Indies players for the most ODI centuries, trailing only Chris Gayle (25) and Brian Lara (19).

Jayden Seales dominated Pakistan's batting lineup, reducing them to 23/4 early on. He returned to finish off the tail, achieving remarkable bowling figures of 6/18, marking the third-best performance by a West Indies bowler in men's ODI history.

This victory also stands as the fourth-largest win by runs for the West Indies in men's ODIs. Hope expressed pride in his team's performance, highlighting the positives from both the match and the series.

“We had a complete game and I am extremely proud of us beating Pakistan after so long,” Hope stated. “We often focus on the negatives in the West Indies, but there are so many positives to celebrate, and it was fantastic to see the team make history.”

Seales was named Player of the Series for his impressive tally of 10 wickets over the three matches, and Hope commended the young bowler's talent.

“Seales is a quality bowler…he’s a class act. He rises to any challenge you give him and performs at his best across formats,” Hope remarked.
