West Bengal CM Honors Legacy of Mohun Bagan's Tutu Bose
Tribute to a Football Legend
On May 13, West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari paid heartfelt tributes to Swapan Sadhan Bose, affectionately known as Tutu Bose, who passed away at the age of 79. Bose was instrumental in elevating Mohun Bagan to the status of India's most celebrated football club. Shortly after being sworn in as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), CM Adhikari visited the Mohun Bagan club tent at Maiden Arena to honor Bose with floral tributes.
Speaking to the media, he urged the supporters of Mohun Bagan to continue the club's legacy with the same passion that Bose exhibited. "Mohun Bagan has a profound spiritual connection with the football enthusiasts of Bengal. To share this sentiment with the Mohun Bagan family, I was joined by State Sports Minister Nisith Pramanik and club officials, along with the head of the All India Football Federation. We are all part of the Mohun Bagan family, here to express our deepest sympathies for Tutu Babu's many admirers," stated the Chief Minister.
He further expressed, "My prayer for the Mohun Bagan supporters today is that, just as Tutu Babu dedicated himself to nurturing the club, may you all unite to advance Mohun Bagan in the same spirit. That would be the most fitting tribute to him." Adhikari was sworn in as the 9th Chief Minister of West Bengal and the first from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) following their significant electoral win, which concluded the 15-year governance of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Tutu Bose had a long-standing association with Mohun Bagan, serving in various capacities for over thirty years. His son, Srinjay, currently holds the position of club secretary. In addition to his contributions to football, Bose was also a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha from 2005 to 2011.
