Washington Sundar Out of ODI Series Against New Zealand Due to Injury

Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand due to a rib injury sustained during the first match. Despite contributing to India's victory, Sundar's condition has raised concerns, especially as he joins other injured players like Rishabh Pant and Tilak Varma. Washington Sundar's Injury Update

New Delhi: Washington Sundar, the Indian all-rounder, has been sidelined from the ODI series against New Zealand due to a rib injury sustained during the first match in Vadodara.

The 26-year-old bowler delivered five overs, conceding 27 runs, but had to leave the field midway through New Zealand's innings and did not return. Despite his discomfort, he batted at No. 8, contributing to India's four-wicket victory.

A BCCI official confirmed, "Washington has been ruled out due to discomfort in his left lower rib area."

Sundar is the third player from the Indian squad to face injury issues; wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was ruled out last week due to a side strain, while Tilak Varma is unavailable for the first three T20Is against New Zealand following groin surgery.

After the match, India’s ODI captain Shubman Gill provided an update on Sundar's condition, stating, "Washington Sundar has a side strain and will undergo a scan after the match."
