VVS Laxman Spotted with Indian Team in England

VVS Laxman, the renowned Indian Test cricket legend, has been seen alongside the Indian cricket team in England over the past couple of days. His presence has sparked curiosity among fans and analysts alike, especially since the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not officially disclosed any role for him during this tour.

Currently, Laxman oversees the BCCI's Centre of Excellence at the National Cricket Academy located in Bengaluru. Although there has been no formal announcement, it is speculated that he may be in England to casually interact with the players and impart his extensive knowledge. Laxman is well-regarded for his expertise in Test cricket and has considerable experience playing in English conditions, making him a valuable asset for any team gearing up for a red-ball series.

His experience can prove useful, particularly for young players in today's team.

Over the years, Laxman has developed a strong connection with cricket in England, having participated in 34 first-class matches there, including 16 for Lancashire in county cricket. He has also represented India in 11 Test matches during three tours in 2002, 2007, and 2011, further enhancing his credibility as a mentor.

Meanwhile, Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir has temporarily returned to Delhi to attend to his mother, who has recently been hospitalized. It is understood that this is a short personal visit, and he is expected to rejoin the team in England within three days.

India is set to face England in the first Test on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. The team has just concluded practice sessions against India A in Beckenham and will take a short break. Players will rest on June 16 before traveling to Leeds on June 17 to prepare for the upcoming Test series. As of now, it remains unclear whether Laxman will continue with the squad or if his visit was merely temporary.
