Exciting Upset in Vadodara

Vadodara (Gujarat) [India], January 3: In a thrilling match that went to extra points, Vivaan Dave and Naisha Rewaskar overcame the top-seeded duo of Aditya Das and Ankolika Chakraborty to secure their place in the U-15 mixed doubles final at the WTT Youth Contender held at the SAMA Indoor Sports Complex on Saturday.


The match concluded with scores of 13-11, 5-11, 11-7, 5-11, and a nail-biting 23-21 in the final game, setting up a championship match against fellow countrymen Reyansh Jalan and Tanishka Kalbhairav, who triumphed over Sanjay Jagdish and Myraa Sangelkar with scores of 11-3, 15-13, 11-7 in the other semifinal.


This marks the second consecutive year that Vadodara is hosting the WTT Youth Contender, featuring competitions across U-11 to U-19 categories with a total of 226 participants.


In the U-19 mixed doubles, top seeds Abhinandh Pradhivadhi and Ananya Muralidharan successfully advanced to the finals, defeating Ritvik Gupta and Ahona Roy with scores of 9-11, 14-12, 11-7, 11-8. They will face Sarthak Arya and Syndrela Das, who eliminated Sahil Rawat and Hardee Patel with scores of 11-6, 12-10, 5-11, 11-5.


The match that captivated the audience occurred during the morning session, showcasing Vivaan and Naisha's resilience. They initially trailed 5-8 but managed to save a game point and clinched the first game.


As the match progressed, both teams exchanged victories in the subsequent games, leading to a tense final game. Aditya and Ankolika surged ahead with a 4-0 lead and held three match points at 10-7. However, Vivaan and Naisha displayed remarkable composure, saving all three match points and ultimately winning four consecutive points to secure their victory.
