Vishesh Sharma Leads Boulders Classic with Record-Breaking Round
Vishesh Sharma Takes Early Lead at Boulders Classic
Hyderabad (Telangana) - In an impressive display of skill, 19-year-old Vishesh Sharma from Hyderabad shot a remarkable seven-under 65, securing a narrow one-shot advantage in the first round of the inaugural Rs 1 crore Boulders Classic at the Boulder Hills Golf and Country Club.
Sharma's outstanding performance not only set a new course record but also included an eagle on the par-5 14th hole, six birdies, and just one bogey, according to a recent announcement.
Two-time DP World Tour champion Shubhankar Sharma finished the round with a six-under 66, placing him in a tie for second with Delhi's Vinay Kumar Yadav. This marked Shubhankar's first appearance on the tour since the Tour Championship in Jamshedpur back in December 2021.
Having turned professional last year and finishing 21st on the PGTI Order of Merit in 2025, Vishesh capitalized on his familiarity with the course to deliver an exceptional round.
Reflecting on his performance, Vishesh stated, “I focused on staying in play early and aimed for good positions. The eagle on the 14th really boosted my momentum. I hit a hybrid to about 10 feet and made the putt, which helped me push forward.”
He continued to build on that momentum, successfully converting several opportunities from within 10 to 15 feet. “I managed to take advantage of the chances I created and made some solid putts,” he added.
Playing in his hometown, Sharma felt a surge of confidence from the familiar surroundings. “It’s fantastic to compete in Hyderabad and stay at home for this event. Knowing the conditions certainly gives me an edge,” he remarked.
Shubhankar's round featured an eagle on the par-5 seventh hole, along with six birdies and two bogeys.
“The course is in excellent condition and will only become more challenging as the week progresses, particularly with the wind and pin placements,” Shubhankar noted. “I had a solid stretch in the middle of my round where I gained shots, including the eagle, which made a significant difference.”
He added, “Finishing strong always boosts your confidence heading into the next round.”
Vinay Kumar Yadav, aged 30, also recorded a flawless six-under 66, tying for second place with Shubhankar. Vinay recently celebrated a playoff victory at the DP World PGTI NexGen event at Golden Greens Golf and Country Club in Gurugram last month.
Yuvraj Sandhu, a pre-tournament favorite, struggled on day one, finishing with a score of 73, placing him tied for 55th.
