Kohli's Remarkable Return to Form

Raipur: Renowned Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has opened up about the anxiety that accompanies high-stakes performances, revealing that his recent string of ducks in the IPL had left him feeling quite anxious.

On Wednesday night, Kohli made a spectacular comeback, scoring an unbeaten 105 runs off 60 balls, leading the Royal Challengers Bengaluru to a six-wicket victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders and securing the top position in the IPL standings.

This innings marked Kohli's record-extending ninth century in the IPL, surpassing legends Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rohit Sharma to achieve the most appearances in the tournament's history with 279 matches. It was also his first century since the 2024 season.

Kohli expressed his relief after the match, stating, "The fact that I didn’t score in the last two games really affected me because I know I can perform well and was hitting the ball nicely," after being named Player of the Match.

He further elaborated, "When you don’t make an impact for the team, it weighs on you, as my goal has always been to improve and contribute positively when I play."

Acknowledging his previous struggles, Kohli noted that setbacks are essential for a player's development.

"The celebration after my century wasn’t extravagant because we understand the significance of the points. I consciously aim to contribute more to the team," he remarked.

Kohli emphasized the importance of pressure, stating, "Pressure is a privilege—it keeps you grounded. Positive pressure enhances your game. Experiencing a couple of challenging matches can induce nervousness, which ultimately aids your performance."

He added, "Those failures are crucial as they motivate you to return to your best form and replicate what has brought you success in the past."

The former Indian captain mentioned that he relied on his natural abilities, focusing on selecting the right lengths and consistently finding gaps.

"I concentrated on my stance at the crease, avoiding anything overly complicated and trusting my instincts. I’m pleased I could rely on my game," Kohli stated.

Regarding his ninth IPL century, he expressed his desire to continue pushing himself at the highest level.

"I love batting... Competing at this level against the best is an honor. I pour my heart and soul into it because it won’t last forever," Kohli reiterated, showcasing his passion for the sport.

"I aim to seize every moment and embrace pressure situations, challenging myself to excel," he added.

Kohli also highlighted the role of sports in shaping character, stating, "Even after all these years, my love for the game remains. I find joy in hitting the ball perfectly, and I am grateful for it all."

RCB captain Rajat Patidar expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance, noting their ascent to the top of the table with 16 points, overtaking the Gujarat Titans.

"It feels fantastic. Everyone has stepped up at different stages of the tournament. We are taking it one game at a time," Patidar commented.

"I’m very pleased with the win. The way we controlled their innings after 10 overs, restricting them to 192, is a positive sign for us," he concluded.
