Nasser Hussain Praises Virat Kohli's Influence on Test Cricket

Nasser Hussain, the former captain of England, has expressed his admiration for Virat Kohli, stating that the batting icon has significantly changed the dynamics of Indian Test cricket with his 'aura, swagger, and passion.'

On Monday, Virat Kohli shared an emotional message announcing his retirement from Test cricket, concluding a remarkable 14-year career. This announcement came shortly after Rohit Sharma also stepped away from the longest format, just a month ahead of India's crucial series in England.

Hussain Reflects on Kohli's Test Career

Throughout his illustrious career, Kohli has been a transformative figure in Test cricket, both as a player and a captain. He retired as India's fourth-highest run-scorer in Tests, amassing 9,230 runs across 123 matches and leading the team to 40 victories out of 68 as captain.

"I have been a huge fan of Virat Kohli for the past 14 years—his statistics are impressive, but he represents much more than that. His aura, swagger, and passion resonate deeply with Indian cricket fans, who hold the game close to their hearts," Hussain remarked during a podcast on Sky Sports Cricket.

"Fans expect their captain to embody the spirit of the team, and no one has done that better than Kohli. He was an extraordinary player who elevated India to the No. 1 ranking in the world, maintaining that position for approximately 42 months. He fundamentally altered the way cricket is played in India. The next captain will have big shoes to fill," he added.

Ex-England Captain Calls Kohli the 'Ultimate Winner'

Kohli, a global social media phenomenon, scored 30 Test centuries, placing him alongside modern greats like Joe Root, Steve Smith, and Kane Williamson.

At 36, he earned the nickname 'Chase Master,' known for his relentless pursuit of victory and impressive scoring while exuding confidence on the field.

"He is the ultimate winner, fixated on achieving victory. His drive for success is unparalleled. This is why he excels in run chases; he cannot step onto the field without giving his all. He refuses to settle for mediocrity, which may have influenced his decision to retire. Kohli has been instrumental in shaping India into the formidable team they are today," Hussain concluded.
