New Delhi [India] May 13: Sarandeep Singh, the head coach of Delhi, emphasized the crucial role Virat Kohli plays for the Indian cricket team, expressing confidence in Kohli's preparation for the upcoming tour of England next month.

Singh acknowledged that while there is always some pressure on Kohli, he is mentally equipped to face the challenges ahead.

“He is undoubtedly one of the key players, and his presence is essential. This time, he is well-prepared and ready to excel in England. He was instrumental in scoring a century in Australia, especially when the team was struggling. There’s always a bit of pressure on him, but he is mentally ready,” Singh stated.

Furthermore, Singh pointed out that India lacks suitable replacements for both Kohli and Rohit Sharma in Test cricket, highlighting their status as legends of the game.

“Their absence will certainly have an impact. We still don’t have players who can fill the shoes of Kohli and Sharma. They are among the greats and will always be remembered as such. It will be interesting to see who steps up to take on their roles. Their 14-year careers, playing across all formats, are remarkable. Now, the onus will be on the younger players to rise to the occasion,” he added.

On Monday, Virat shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, marking the end of his 14-year Test career, which resonated with many fans. His departure leaves the Indian Test team lacking in experience, especially on the challenging pitches of the UK.

Throughout his illustrious career, Kohli amassed 9,230 runs at an average of 46.85, including 30 centuries and 31 fifties, making him India's fourth-highest run-scorer in Test cricket.
