Virat Kohli Shines in IPL 2026 Opener with Match-Winning Performance
Virat Kohli's Stellar Performance in IPL 2026
Virat Kohli: The inaugural match of IPL 2026 took place last night between RCB and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Sunrisers faced a tough start, losing their first three wickets for just 29 runs. However, a remarkable partnership between Ishan Kishan and Aniket Verma propelled SRH to a total of 201 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
When RCB took to the field, Virat Kohli opened the innings and remained unbeaten, scoring 69 runs off 38 balls, leading his team to victory. Following the match, he addressed his retirement from T20 format and his impressive performance for RCB.
Virat Kohli Reflects on His Match-Winning Innings
After RCB's convincing win by six wickets in just 15.4 overs, Kohli expressed his feelings, stating:
“It feels great to be back here. The last match I played was in the IPL final last year, but my recent performance in the ODI series helped me regain my rhythm. I wasn't playing the shots I usually do. I know I'm in good form and have worked hard on my fitness, so I expect good performances. We had a great opportunity to start well, and we did just that.”
Regarding his retirement from Test and T20 formats, Kohli mentioned:
“With the schedule I've had over the last 15 years and the amount of cricket we've played, the risk of fatigue from playing too much has been greater than the lack of preparation. These breaks have helped me return refreshed.”
Kohli's Commitment to Excellence
Kohli also responded to his critics, asserting:
“Whenever I step onto the field, I strive to give 120 percent. I never come unprepared. The extra breaks have helped me mentally recharge. Playing when you're physically and mentally fresh allows you to contribute to the team, which is what every player aims for. RCB has kicked off this season with a win, and their next match is against Chennai Super Kings on April 5.”
