Kohli's T20 Journey After International Retirement

During the podcast, Kohli reflected on his T20 career, particularly after stepping back from international T20s last year. He expressed satisfaction with his growth, which has pushed him beyond his comfort zone and alleviated his fear of failure.

"In recent seasons, I've made a deliberate effort to enhance my game, and I've witnessed positive outcomes. I had to let go of external expectations and focus on simply hitting the ball," Kohli stated.

He elaborated on the mental journey of a cricketer, emphasizing the importance of returning to the basics of hitting the ball without being hindered by pressure. Kohli acknowledged that while he might not score big every game, contributing significantly with scores of 35-40 is still valuable for the team.

Kohli's Record-Breaking IPL Performance

Since the beginning of the last IPL season, Kohli has amassed 1,246 runs in 26 innings, boasting an impressive average of 62.30 and a strike rate of nearly 150 (149.93). His record includes one century and 12 fifties, with a highest score of 113*. He ranks third in sixes hit during this period, trailing Nicholas Pooran and Abhishek Sharma.

Last season marked Kohli's explosive form, where he scored 741 runs in 15 innings at an average of 61.75 and a strike rate of 154.69, including one century and five fifties. His aggressive approach against spin has also been notable, with strike rates of 137.08 and 135.42 in the last two seasons.

Kohli's T20 World Cup Final Experience

Reflecting on the T20 World Cup, Kohli, who had only scored 75 runs in seven innings prior to the final, delivered a crucial 76 runs in the championship match. He admitted to stepping onto the field with "no confidence".

"I am more grateful than proud for the World Cup win. Despite my struggles throughout the tournament, I was thankful for the opportunity to perform under pressure. It was surreal to suddenly find myself scoring runs on such a significant day," he recalled.

Kohli emphasized the importance of preparation and instinct in cricket, stating that while he can control his preparation, the outcomes are influenced by various factors beyond his control.

Kohli's Retirement from T20Is

Kohli noted that his T20I retirement has not altered his approach in the IPL, as he made the decision to allow emerging players the chance to develop their skills. He believes that the new generation requires time to adapt to international cricket.

"The choice to retire was made with the understanding that younger players are ready to step up. They play a different game and need time to evolve and gain experience before facing the pressures of major tournaments," he explained.

Kohli concluded by stressing the importance of team evolution and the shared experiences that contribute to building a successful unit.

Kohli's T20I and Overall T20 Records

As of now, Kohli ranks as the third-highest run-scorer in T20Is, with 4,188 runs from 125 matches at an average of 48.69, including one century and 38 fifties. His overall T20 record stands at 13,391 runs across 410 matches and 393 innings, with nine centuries and 104 fifties.
