Virat Kohli Faces Legal Action Following Chinnaswamy Stadium Stampede
Complaint Filed Against RCB Star Virat Kohli
A formal complaint has been lodged against Virat Kohli, the prominent player of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), at the Cubbon Park Police Station. This action follows a tragic stampede that occurred outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4.
The complaint was initiated by H.M. Venkatesh, a senior social activist, who has been assured by the police that his letter will be reviewed alongside the FIR already filed concerning the stampede incident.
The stampede, which erupted right after RCB's IPL title celebration, resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals and left many others injured. This celebration marked RCB's first IPL trophy win after a 16-year wait, as they triumphed over Punjab Kings by a narrow margin of 6 runs.
Cancellation of RCB Bus Parade
On Friday morning, authorities arrested Nikhil Sosale, the marketing head of the IPL 2025 champions. The planned trophy parade was called off after Bengaluru police advised the public to avoid roads near Vidhana Soudha and Chinnaswamy Stadium from 3 PM to 8 PM.
Investigation into the Bengaluru Stampede
Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah acknowledged the unexpectedly large crowd outside the stadium, which contributed to the chaos. An FIR has been filed against RCB, the event management firm, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association in connection with this incident.
The KSCA has denied any liability and has approached the High Court to challenge the FIR. Social media platforms were flooded with videos depicting the distress of individuals as the crowd spiraled out of control. An investigation has been launched to determine how a celebratory event turned into a tragic occurrence.
There was a lack of clear communication from the RCB organization regarding the celebration's logistics, which may have played a role in the unfortunate events of June 4. Several senior police officials, including Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda, have been suspended, and a judicial commission has been established to investigate the matter.
