Kohli's Return Sparks Excitement in Delhi Cricket

Virat Kohli, the iconic figure in Indian cricket, has reignited enthusiasm among cricket fans in Delhi and the District Cricket Association (DDCA) with his recent announcement. Reports indicate that Kohli has confirmed his availability for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. This information was shared by DDCA president Rohan Jaitley on Tuesday evening.

The 50-over domestic tournament is set to kick off on December 24, with Delhi beginning their campaign against Andhra Pradesh on the opening day. Jaitley expressed his excitement, stating, “Virat has confirmed his availability to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. We are thrilled to have him on the team.”

This confirmation also dispels rumors suggesting that Kohli might defy the directives of the Indian team management. Currently, both head coach Gautam Gambhir and BCCI selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar are keen for Kohli and Rohit Sharma to participate in the Vijay Hazare Trophy to adapt to the challenging conditions of international cricket ahead of the 2027 World Cup.

As per the latest updates, Kohli and Rohit returned to international cricket in October 2025 against Australia, and discussions regarding their future have been ongoing. In a recent ODI match against South Africa, Kohli scored 135 runs while Rohit contributed 57, forming a partnership of 136 runs for the second wicket. They had also delivered impressive performances in the Sydney ODI.

The relationship between Kohli and head coach Gambhir has been a topic of discussion in the cricketing world. Following the victory in the first ODI, Kohli's lukewarm response to Gambhir highlighted a communication gap within the team. Additionally, selector Pragyan Ojha has engaged in discussions with Kohli, emphasizing his commitment to the team.

Kohli is also expected to be part of the Indian team for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand in January. While he is anticipated to play several matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, his full participation remains uncertain due to his scheduled flight to London following the South Africa series.

It is noteworthy that Kohli last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2010 as the captain of Delhi. His return after 15 years brings a glimmer of hope for Delhi cricket, which has faced disappointment in recent performances in the Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
